Brussels, 20 November 2013 – Working language of the conference is English
WHAT IS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT? WHAT CONTRIBUTION CAN IT MAKE TO ADDRESSING POVERTY, INEQUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES? IS THERE A PLACE FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ON THE POLICY MAKING AGENDA? HOW CAN THE EU SUPPORT THE EMPOWERMENT OF ITS CITIZENS AND STRENGTHEN THEIR PARTICIPATION TO THE EU POLITICAL LIFE?
These and other questions were addressed during the conference A European Framework for Community Development, organized by EuCDN on 20 November 2013 in Brussels. The event was hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee, Treves Building, 74 Rue de Treves, 1040 Brussels, and it will bring together people actively involved in community development from 10 different European countries, representatives of European organizations active in the area of citizenship, human rights, poverty alleviation, local development etc. and representatives of EU Institutions.
Building on the framework for community development created throughout the project “Empowered Communities Active EU Citizens” – funded by the European Commission through the Europe for Citizens Programme – the conference aims to highlight the contribution of community development to the development of a democratic and inclusive society, and to explore how local realities could be connected with European realities.
The findings of the conference were meant to contribute to further generating action and promoting models of citizen empowerment at local, national and international levels.
